Lithos Consulting assess the risk and uncertainty in the ground and offer the best solutions to manage that risk, saving clients time and money. As part of this work, on-site surveys are conducted, often by a single surveyor in potentially dangerous or remote locations. In order to monitor and protect their surveyors, Lithos Consulting approached Appware to develop an App solution.
The Man Down App uses Geolocation APIs to detect surveyors positions. Accelerometers in the device are used to detect movement. As part of the App development, Appware developed a server and database solution to periodically monitor jobs as part of a fail-safe procedure. All jobs are stored in the database when they’re started, along with their start time, duration and location. The monitoring server loops through all active jobs every 30 seconds. If the expected end time of the job is exceeded, or no movement is detected for an extended time, the monitoring server sends an emergency email to several senior members of staff. By sending these emails from an external server, any issues with the App or device, such as battery life or signal strength, are mitigated.
- Surveyor registration, which logs name and mobile number to an off-site database.
- Job registration, which logs the Job number, duration and start date/time and a user-defined passcode to an off-site database
- Once a job is started, any further actions require the user to enter their predefined passcode for added security
- Accelerometers detect movement. If no movement is detected for an extended period an emergency alarm sounds and an email is sent to several senior members of staff.
