With the prices of premium smartphones over £1000, Xiaomi has just released a new budget premium smartphone. For this weeks Appy Friday, we’re giving you a rundown of the features of this device and what makes it great for the price.

This new Xiaomi Pocophone F1 has great specs to compete with the recent high-end devices. The Xiaomi Pocophone F1 retails for £310 which is a fraction of the price of the new iPhone’s.

The new smartphone from Xiaomi ranges from 6GB to 8GB of RAM and from 64GB to 256GB of storage. It also allows an SD card,  so if you need a lot of storage this device could also be good for you. This phone is fitting in with all the other smartphones of 2018 as it has the notch at the top of the screen like the new iPhone. The new device has a 6.8-inch, 2,246 x 1,080 pixel LCD screen.

Also in this device, it has clever tech that stops it from overheating called the LiquidCool tech, this is where a heat pipe is in place to drive excess heat away from the processor so no matter how long you use it for, it won’t overheat.

Another great thing about this device is the battery life. It has potentially one of the longest battery lives on the market currently, as it can last up to 2 and a half days without charging with moderate usage. Quick Charge 3.0 is supported on the device too, so you can charge your phone quickly when you do need to.

The device does come with a headphone jack and stereo speaker. However, the speaker isn’t of the highest quality but at least it doesn’t distort when on full volume.

The Pocophone is also great for photos and comes with a dual camera on the back. The main camera is 12-megapixels and captures decent photos. It also has AI features which can enhance your photos, but you can turn this off if you don’t like this feature.

The secondary camera is better for bokeh-style shots with a 5-megapixel depth sensor camera. However, you aren’t always guaranteed a nice shot in this style unless you are photographing a still subject or are the right distance from it. The front facing camera on this device is 20-megapixels and will take a great photo in daylight, but not quite as great in low light.

So, that was this weeks Appy Friday. This new smartphone from Xiaomi has a great spec for an incredible price compared to the leading smartphones on the market currently. Let us know what you think to this new budget alternative to the new Apple and Samsung devices.
