For Appy Friday this week, we’re bringing you the news from CES 2019 (The Consumer Electronics Show) which has been held this week. As there are so many bits of news, this week is part 1, and next week will be part 2 once CES has finished.

Samsung
This week Samsung announced that their first 5G smartphone. It’s expected that these devices will be officially unveiled at the MWC in February 2019. Samsungs TV’s in 2019 will get AI features so Bixby (Samsung’s smart assistant) will be integrated into their TV’s too. They will also get an iTunes app for movies and TV shows which is the first time iTunes content has been available on a non-Apple TV.

Google Assistant
Google Assistant also got an upgrade in that via Google Translate you can now translate live voices and is surprisingly accurate making a great feature. It can work as a real-life translator in 27 different languages! Here’s a quick video demo video we found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4m08wV3GjhI

LG
LG announced their new TV named the LG OLED TV R. The new LG TV has a built-in soundbar and high-quality 65-inch, 4K screen. This will be available to purchase in the second half of the year and will likely have a high price tag. LG also announced two new laptops, the 17-inch LG Gram Laptop which is ultra lightweight but powerful, and a 2-in-1 (where the screen detaches to make a tablet) laptop. As well as this they have also revealed a new soundbar with Google Assistant, Meridian Audio and Dolby Atmos.

Lenovo Smart Clock
Smart home hubs are becoming even more popular in 2019 and now Lenovo has brought out their own smart clock. It’s very similar to a lot of others on the market currently and is powered by Google Assistant.

Acer
Acer announced their new AMD powered Chromebook, with 15.6- inch full HD display, naming it the Chromebook 315. This may be a budget level Chromebook (below £300) but they’ve given it a great specification in all areas.

Huawei
At CES this year Huawei unveiled their new MateBook 13 set to rival the MacBook Air. However, it will be a much more affordable alternative to the Apple device. It’s super slim (slimmer than the MacBook Air!) and lightweight and has two different options of i5 or i7 processors and is very well specified. It looks great and well built being made from aluminium and has very small bezels on the screen too.

Sony
Sony also announced a new line of TV’s, both OLED and LED. The two models they unveiled were the Master Series A9G and the Master Series ZG9. The Master Series A9G is the OLED 4K HDR TV coming in three sizes, 55-inch, 65-inch and 75-inch. The Master Series ZG9 is an 8K LED TV available in two sizes 98-inch and 85-inch. Both these TV’s have Google Assistant, AirPlay 2 and Alexa built into them. Prices haven’t been announced yet but don’t expect these to be cheap!
